JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind. -- A 2-year-old was killed in a house fire in New Whiteland Tuesday.

The Marion County Coroner's Office has identified the toddler as Manserat Kaur.

Johnson County EMA says they got the call about the fire in the 700 block of Hickory Pine Drive around 12:40 pm on Tuesday.

Fire officials say an adult was outside the house when they arrived on the scene; the 2-year-old was still in the home.

They got her out in 15 minutes but she died later at Riley Hospital.

"This is never easy, especially for our department. Like I said before this is the first fatality fire that I can remember in our town's history possibly so not something we deal with on an every day basis or any fire department for that matter," New Whiteland Fire Chief Derek Wilson said.

No word at this time about what started the fire.
