JACKSON COUNTY, Ind. -- A 3-year-old girl from Seymour, Indiana was killed in a crash early Friday morning in Jackson County.

The crash happened around 12:40 a.m., on US 31, near County Road 500 South.

A trooper with the Indiana State Police said a 2006 Jeep Liberty, driven by Brent Sawyer, 21 was traveling south on US 31 when he lost control and crossed into the path of a 2003 Ford Windstar, driven by Devin Bevers, 30.

The two vehicles crashed head-on.

Bevers' daughter, Tavaya Bevers, 3, sustained fatal injuries. Police believe she was in the back seat, properly restrained by a child seat at the time of the crash. She was taken to a nearby hospital, where she died from her injuries.

Both drivers were checked out at the scene.

The investigation is still ongoing. Toxicology results for both drivers are pending.
