INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis firefighters rescued five dogs and resuscitated one of them after a fire on the northwest side.

The fire happened Sunday morning in the 4000 block of Ayrshire Street near 46th and Knollton Road.

Firefighters said a car in the driveway caught on fire for an unknown reason, possibly due to a mechanical issue.

The fire spread to another vehicle and to part of the house.

No one was injured and the dogs are doing OK, but neighbors reported that the fire sounded like an explosion.

“We don't see any evidence of an explosion, but with the sounds of the tires popping, people may think, yeah, we have an explosion,” IFD batallion chief Scott Olofson said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
