INDIANAPOLIS -- A 5-year-old was killed and an infant and two adults seriously injured after a head-on crash in Wayne County Thursday afternoon.
The accident happened just after 1 p.m. on SR 227 north of Roell Road in northeastern Wayne County.
Indiana State Police investigators believe Anthony J Zircher, 45, was attempting to pass a vehicle in a no passing zone at the crest of a hill when he ran head-on into another car.
The driver of that car, Brittney Lee Bryley, 24, had to be extricated and was taken to the hospital in serious condition. 5-year-old Jocelyne Grace Gesell, who was in a booster seat in the back of the car was taken to Reid Hospital and then flown to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton where she later died. An infant who was in a car seat in the back of the car was also taken to Reid Health with non-life threatening injuries.
Zircher was taken to the hospital for complaint of pain and non-life threatening injuries. He was the only person in his vehicle.
The crash remains under investigation by Indiana State Police. Crash reconstruction will submit their findings to the Wayne County Prosecutor for possible charges.
