MUNCIE, Ind. -- Dozens of cats, including one dead animal, were removed from a mobile home on the south side of Muncie this week.

Muncie Superintendent of Animal Care & Services Phil Peckinpaugh said approximately 50 cats were found living in a mobile home near the east 29th Street Walmart.

As of Monday evening, dozens of the cats had been moved to the animal shelter, but 15-20 were thought to still be in the home. Animal control officers were planning to return to the residence Tuesday to take the remaining cats.

Meanwhile, a veterinarian will check the health of all the cats that were rescued.

No information about the resident of the mobile home was immediately available.
