INDIANAPOLIS -- The I-465/I-69 interchange on Indy's northeast side is going to be seeing some major improvements.
Governor Pence announced Tuesday that the state will invest an estimated $50 million to reconfigure the interchange that's used by more than 165,000 drivers daily.
The improvements are meant to ease congestion, improve safety and reduce travel time:
- A high-speed, two-lane ramp will be built for traffic exiting I-465 eastbound onto I-69 northbound.
- I-465 will be widened to four travel lanes in each direction between the White River bridge and I-69.
- Two ramp lanes in each direction will run continuously between the I-69, Allisonville Road and Keystone Avenue interchanges for traffic entering and exiting the interstate.
A formal request for proposals to design the project will be published this week.
INDOT expects preliminary design to begin in 2016 and construction to start in 2020.
