HENDRICKS COUNTY — A man who was struck and killed along I-70 in Hendricks County Wednesday night had pulled over to check on a stranded motorist.
Deputies with the Hendricks County Sheriff's Office responded to the crash near State Road 39 just after 11:30 p.m.
Investigators say David Scully, 68, was traveling home from work when he passed a stranded motorist on the side of the interstate. They say Scully turned around at the next exit and parked his vehicle along the shoulder of the entrance ramp so he could get out and check on the other driver. After making sure the driver was okay, Scully was walking back to his vehicle when he was struck by a semi.
Scully was pronounced dead at the scene.
Deputies say the semi driver stopped after the collision, but because of the area and lighting conditions he then drove to the nearest rest park to investigate the damage and call police. He told investigators he didn't know what he had hit and they say he has been cooperative.
The crash remains under investigation by the Hendricks County Sherif'fs Office.
