8-year-old Indy boy hands out meals to those in need on Thanksgiving

INDIANAPOLIS -- An 8-year-old Indianapolis boy, whose goal is to bring peace to his neighborhood, spent his Thanksgiving handing out meals to those in need.clt y

Reese Hamilton lives in one of the city’s highest crime neighborhoods. Earlier this year he met with Mayor Hogsett to work on a plan to help fight that crime. He even led a peace march through his neighborhood along with the mayor.

But on Thanksgiving, Reese spent the day giving back to the community in a different way.

“When I see people not getting Thanksgiving dinners, it breaks my heart because everybody needs Thanksgiving meals. And not everybody has them,” said Reese.

His goal is to bring hope to some of those in his community, by giving them a warm meal this holiday.

The third grader helped cook and package the dozens of meals that he handed out with the help of his friends.

And Reese’s hard work isn’t going unnoticed; neighbors like Kylee Garrett hope say his attitude could help change their neighborhood.

“I grew up in this neighborhood too, and it’s gone down, but with him having the positive attitude like this, it’ll change this neighborhood,” said Garrett.

It even caught the attention of Mayor Hogsett who tweeted, “So proud of Reese and all he is accomplishing for our city.”

Reese and his mother say this won’t be the last time they hand out meals. They’re already making big plans for something around Christmas.

Reese is also collecting blankets to give to the homeless next month.
