LAWRENCE—The Lawrence Police Department has been around for 90-years. Now, for the first time, it has its own headquarters building.

The dedication was Friday at 5150 North Post Road and the building will open for business in early-December.

According to Chief David Hofmann, the city of about 50,000 now has a "designated police headquarters facility capable of meeting our community's complex public safety and law enforcement needs, now and for the next 50-years."

Until now, Lawrence PD has shared space with other municipal offices in various buildings over the years.

Total cost for the headquarters was just under $12 million.

An open house for the community followed the dedication ceremony, which featured comments from city officials, the National Anthem and a flag-raising by the Lawrence Police Department Honor Guard.
