MUNCIE, Ind. – An abandoned Muncie home that was labeled an eyesore and a health hazard by neighbors for years was demolished Friday after months of promises by city leaders to knock it down.
A couple of days ago, RTV6 visited the home in the 2200 block of Dartmouth Avenue to find it still standing after nearly three years. Following the report, neighbors sent in photos of the home being demolished.
Neighbors said the home sat empty since the woman who owned it passed away. They also complained it became a frequent target of vandals as well as trash dumping.

By May 2016, the home’s broken windows were still not boarded. Muncie officials said the process was not part of the budget.
The home was slated to be torn down in August of 2016 but again, city funding halted the process.
The Dartmouth home isn’t the only community eyesore, as city officials say there are over 2,500 abandoned homes in the area.
Muncie officials say they are only able to demolish a small fraction of homes at a time.
