SCOTTSBURG—A crash early Friday morning in Scottsburg claimed five lives and left two other people injured, according to Indiana State Police.

The single-vehicle rollover wreck happened just to the north of Scottsburg on North Main Street. That's about 85 miles south of Indianapolis, just off I 65.

State Police Public Information Officer Sgt. Carey Huls says seven people were in the Ford Explorer. The five who died were ejected and were not wearing seat belts. The two people who were injured were rushed to a Louisville hospital.

Huls says speed appears to be a factor in the crash, but why the vehicle left the roadway hasn't been determined.

The four deceased adults are identified as:

  • Jeremiah Akers, 18, Deputy
  • Christopher Dry. 18, Indianapolis
  • Wandella Brown, 22, Austin
  • Elizabeth Wager, 20, Lexington

A 16-year-old girl, Sarah Starling, of New Albany, was also killed in the crash. State Police believe Wandella Brown was driving the vehicle.
