CARMEL, Ind. -- With the 4th of July weekend fast approaching, the latest terror attack in Turkey has some Hoosiers nervous.
In Carmel, security for the city's annual July 4th celebrations will be tight. From the lowest-ranking officer to the police chief, every member of the police department will be on-duty during the event.
"If we have an emergency, we plan for that," said Lt. Joe Bickel.
Counter-terrorism expert Peter Beering says events like 4th of July celebrations are "soft targets."
"We are certainly likely to see these kinds of things on the part of groups like ISIS, who have said they are trying to show the world they mean business here at the close of Ramadan," Beering said.
The director of Indiana's Department of Homeland Security says each and every Hoosier should be prepared.
