LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP — Amy Beverland Elementary School was evacuated Friday morning because of a fire in the roof and students are being released to their parents.
Dana Altemeyer with Lawrence Township Schools says the fire originated in the roof of the building and was in an area that was under construction.
Students and staff were quickly evacuated and everyone is safe and accounted for.

“Teachers did a phenomenal job, all students are safe and they evacuated quickly,” Altemeyer said.
Altemeyer says they will not be allowed to re-enter the building today and students are being dismissed.
The school is asking parents who are able to pick up their children by 9:30 a.m. to do so on the north side of the elementary school. After 9:30 a.m. students will be transported to Lawrence North High School.
