Another Indiana company moving jobs to Mexico

Posted
ELKHART, Ind. (AP) - A northern Indiana company that makes audio-visual equipment is laying off more than 100 workers and moving their jobs to California and Mexico.

Harman International says about 125 production and warehouse employees in Elkhart will be laid off in phases between now and June 2017. The Elkhart Truth reports  those jobs will be moved to existing facilities in Moreno Valley, California, and Tijuana, Mexico.

The company said in a statement that the layoffs are "necessary to prepare Harman for future growth."

Elkhart has been home to Harman's Professional Solutions Division, which the company says had been particularly challenged by economic and market shifts.

About 175 employees will continue at that site, including the company's electronics research and development team, North American sales office, customer service and technical support.
