INDIANAPOLIS -- Marsh will be closing seven more stores in May, including three in Indianapolis.

The company announced Thursday that the stores on East Washington Street, North Franklin Road and Shadeland Avenue will be among the seven closing on May 14.

They will also be closing stores in Frankfort, Logansport and Portland in Indiana and one store in Ohio.

The company says they are closing the stores because of "sustained weak performance."

"This is a very difficult decision for us as we have been serving these communities for many years and have many great relationships with our valued customers," said a company spokesperson.

The company says they are trying to find positions for associates who wish to remain with Marsh at one of their other stores.

The latest closings come amid rumors of financial trouble and several other closures since the beginning of the year.

Stores on State Road 9 in Greenfield and 21st Street and Post Road in Indianapolis are scheduled to close by 5 p.m. on May 6.

Before the whirlwind of closures began in January, the company had over 70 Marsh Supermarkets and O’Malia Food Markets in Indiana and Ohio.

Marsh has been an Indiana staple since the company opened their first store in Muncie in 1931. Their headquarters is currently in Indianapolis.
