INDIANAPOLIS -- A man arrested following an anti-Trump protest in Indianapolis on Saturday appeared in court on Thursday.
Cody Clark is charged with a felony after police say he ignored their orders to stop running and struck an officer who was trying to tackle him. According to court documents police had to use a pepperball launcher to slow him down and place him in handcuffs.
But free on bond, Clark says he will continue to voice his displeasure with Trump's presidential election.
"He has emboldened racism, xenophobia, bigotry, mysogony, literally any type of thing other than being a white male he has emboldened to be against," said Clark.
It's unclear what Clark's defense will be in the charges against him, but legal experts say post-presidential election dissent is not unusual.
"I think people have to remember this is pretty mild when you look back at the election of Abraham Lincoln in 1860, when upon his election and before his inauguration 11 states seceded from the Union," said Jack Crawford. "Those were people who were upset with the election results. That kind of fervor by the public and that kind of concern is expected."
Clark told the judge he wishes to hire his own attorney to represent him. A review of counsel hearing has been set for his case for December 15.
Six other protestors are also facing criminal charges.
