COLUMBUS—Child car safety seats are a big deal in Columbus, both for the normal safety reasons and because one of the leading makers of the seats is located there.

So this Friday, July 26, from 9 to 11 a.m., the Columbus Police Department and Dorel Juvenile team up for a car seat safety check at police headquarters, 123 Washington Street.

At this free event, according to the police department, car safety seats will be checked for proper installation by certified technicians from Dorel. And seats that haven't been installed will be. The whole thing should take less than 15 minutes.

"It's not uncommon for our officers to see booster and child safety seats installed and used incorrectly," said Columbus Police Lieutenant Matt Harris. "We are excited to partner with Dorel Juvenile to help keep children and their families safe."

Dorel manufacturers child safety products and other items under a number of brand names, including Cosco.
