Art installation at east side park cleaned up

Posted

INDIANAPOLIS -- A controversial art installation at Willard Park on the city's east side has been taken down.

A few residents who live near the park along New York Street used items found in alley ways to decorate the area.

The creators said it was a creative way to re-purpose discarded items that were thrown out.

But the park has been cleaned up, after neighbors voiced concerns, saying the art installation encouraged dumping and said it was an eyesore.

The property is owned by the Riley Area Development Corporation.

Officials with the nonprofit group say they understood community concerns over the park looked, so they are working with the community to make a more orderly art installation.
