BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY, Ind. -- A Bartholomew County organization is working to help families obtain economic self-sufficiency.
One in three families in Bartholomew County doesn't earn enough money to make ends meet according to United Way.
Bartholomew County Works is trying to give people the skills to change that.
The organization is holding a job training readiness workshop aimed at people who are unemployed or underemployed and living in poverty.
The workshop is being held from September 11 through the 15th at the YES Cinema in Columbus. Sessions will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. They will feature one-on-one help with resumes, mock job interviews and shopping for clothes to wear to interviews.
The workshop will help connect people with employers with a goal of making them completely self-sufficient; no food stamps, Medicaid, housing or childcare assistance.
Those who wish take part are required to attend an orientation on Thursday, September 7 from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Lincoln-Central Neighborhood Family Center in Columbus.
