EDINBURGH, Ind. -- A Bartholomew County man is now recovering and facing charges after overdosing on heroin, just hours after the county sheriff made public his push to combat drug addiction.

The 29-year-old man overdosed on Wednesday night in Edinburgh. Sheriff’s deputies used three doses of Narcan to revive him.

He was taken to the hospital for more treatment. Once that was completed, he was taken to the Bartholomew County Jail for various drug charges.

The man's identity has not been released. That's standard procedure for overdose victims.

This overdose happened just hours after Bartholomew County Sheriff Matt Myers reiterated on Facebook his plan to have a treatment program in the county jail for drug addiction.

His office said the plan is still in the works, as things like budgeting and determining which parts of the jail would be used are still in the works.

According to Sheriff Myers, if all goes well, the program will be up and running in the second half of 2018.
