Input sought on development of Columbus neighborhood formerly home to Foundry

Posted

COLUMBUS, Ind. -- A Columbus neighborhood, formerly home to industrial factories is changing and now people who live there can share their thoughts on future changes.

Once home to the Golden Castings Foundry, the central Columbus neighborhood at issue is bordered by 19th Street to the north and 6th Street to the south, stretching west to Sycamore Street and east to Hawcreek Avenue.

The city of Columbus Planning Department is developing a Columbus Central Neighborhood Plan, partnering with a Baltimore-based planning and design firm called Design Collective to create the plan.

People who live in the community can weigh-in on the plan during a three-day workshop. Community members will be asked to share their thoughts on new homes, apartments, and businesses and how new buildings should look as well as needed street and sidewalk improvements.

Tuesday, October 24 at 6pm – 8:30pm: Opening Presentation and Visioning Session
The first evening of the workshop will consist of an opening presentation about the neighborhood and this project. After the presentation participants will be asked to discuss neighborhood assets, concerns, opportunities for improvement, and what the neighborhood should look like in 10-20 years.

Wednesday, October 25 at 6pm – 7pm:  Public Open House
The second evening of the workshop will consist of a 1 hour open house. Community members are invited to view the results of the previous evening’s discussions, as well as view and comment on preliminary recommendations for new homes, apartments, and businesses; street and sidewalk improvements; and design guidelines.

Thursday, October 26 at 6pm – 7:30pm: Closing Presentation and Public Open House
The third and final evening of the workshop will consist of a closing presentation, which will include draft recommendations for the neighborhood based on the input received the previous two evenings.
