COLUMBUS, Ind. -- A Columbus mother says she had everything planned for the birth of her second little girl, but her baby girl had other plans - and they didn't include being born in a hospital.
Chelsea Burton’s first childbirth experience was closer to normal – 10 to 12 hours – in a hospital.
A home birth was never part of her plan.
“Epidural was part of my plan,” said Chelsea.
But when baby Emelia decided it was time to come out – she wasn’t waiting.
“I felt a lot of pressure and then I stood up – and about as quickly as I stood up she plopped out,” said Burton.
In total, about 15 minutes of labor.
“I was shocked,” said Chelsea's husband, Justin. “I didn’t even know it was possible to happen this fast.”
Chelsea said caught Emelia in her own hands while her husband was in the other room getting things around – and the first few minutes were terrifying.
“She wasn’t making any noise,” said Chelsea.
But a few quick instructions from dispatchers and Emelia was crying like a newborn.
“He grabbed her real fast and was moving her around trying to get her to make some noise – then she started crying,” said Chelsea.
Now the family of four has quite the tale to tell.
“A good, interesting story to tell people as she gets a little older,” said Justin. “She better be the golden child.”
