TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- A Vigo County school is temporarily closed due to a bat infestation, according to a recent report from ABC.
The issue was first discovered at Sarah Scott Middle school when a custodian was hit in the head by a bat and another employee in the chest.
When students returned to the classroom last week, the gym was unusable due to the bats.
Now school officials say the entire building is unsafe and it was closed beginning Wednesday.
“It is in the best interest of the students and faculty to put them in a different environment until the bat situation is eradicated,” said Joni Wise, administrator with the Vigo County Health Department.
Although the bats have only been seen during the evenings, a dead one was found inside the building.
Students are currently attending classes at another school.
