Beer spill slows traffic on 465 on north side

Posted

A large beer spill slowed traffic on the north side of Indianapolis Friday morning.

The spill was reported in the westbound lanes of Interstate 465 near Ditch Road, where a semi carrying beer was overturned.

The semi driver was trapped in the vehicle, and was taken to St. Vincent Hospital. He had non-life threatening injuries.

Indiana State Police said at least three drivers called 911 just before the crash to report that the driver of the semi was weaving and swerving.

"We had a couple of witnesses who were following this commercial vehicle reporting the guy was weaving and possibly sleepy. As he came to the curve, he almost hit the median barrier wall, overcorrected and ended up in the ditch," Trooper David Henson said.

Indiana State Police are also talking to witnesses who stopped right after the crash. The exact cause is still under investigation.
