INDIANPOLIS — A bicyclist was struck and killed by a vehicle on Indianapolis' south side early Monday morning.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were called to the scene near the intersection of Madison Avenue and Stop 11 Road just before 6:30 a.m.

Police say a person was riding a bike northbound in the bike lane around 6:15 a.m. when the accident happened. They believe the cyclist may have swerved out of the bike lane, but the cause is still under investigation.

The driver who struck the bicyclist did stop and witnesses stopped to render aid. The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.
