Bike ride for peace brings African-Americans and police together

Posted

INDIANAPOLIS -- The ride had already been scheduled, even before the events of this week.  But the Ten Point Coalition said the police shootings in Minnesota and Louisiana made this morning’s bike ride for peace more meaningful.

About 50 people rode bicycles through Butler-Tarkington, Crown Hill and the United Northwest Area, all neighborhoods where Ten Point members have volunteered to patrol to help cut down on violent crime.

Ten Point was joined on the ride by some IMPD officers, and the group that’s made up primarily of African-Americans say it’s more important than ever to show unity with police. “For people to come out and join hands, and embrace our police for the wonderful job that they do in serving and protecting this community it was really nice,” said Rev. Charles Harrison of Ten Point.
