Prosecutors have charged a Bloomington man in the death of his infant daughter.
Police arrested 33-year-old Robierre McNeil on June 2.
McNeil made his first court appearance Tuesday to face charges of battery and child neglect.
Police were called to his Bloomington apartment to find his 2-month-old daughter unresponsive. She later died at a Bloomington hospital.
Doctors say she had multiple skull fractures and brain bleeds – evidence of blunt force trauma.
According to court documents, the child's mother was at the laundromat and McNeil was in charge the afternoon the infant died.
McNeil told police he spent the day napping and playing with his other children while the 2-month-old mostly stayed in her swing.
Court documents say a police body camera caught McNeil telling someone on the phone that it was his fault and he should have checked on her when she had trouble breathing.
In a formal interview with police, McNeil said he did not murder his daughter.
McNeil is also a registered sex offender in Indiana. In 2010 he pleaded guilty to child molesting and served one year in jail.
