BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- A Bloomington business owner's support for police apparently made him a target for vandalism this week.

The owner of Jump-N-Joey's came to work Tuesday morning to find the name "Tamir Race" spray-painted all along the side of his business.

Rice was the 12-year-old boy shot and killed by Cleveland police two years ago.

The vandalism comes after the business agreed to host police for Tuesday's annual National Night Out event.

"We were saddened by it," Said Bloomington Police Sgt. Steven Kellams. "It's unfortunate someone vandalized this business."

Business owner Chance Jeffress said he was stunned, then confused, and finally frustrated as he processed the scene.

"I  think the ultimate target was probably the Bloomington Police Department, but to put that burden on the back of a small business … I mean, we've got a crew out here been cleaning all day," Jeffress said.

That work comes with a bill in the thousands of dollars, Jeffress said.

However, Jeffress said the vandalism did nothing but bolster support for local police, with the number of those in attendance far exceeding expectations.
