BOONE COUNTY, Ind. -- A historic Boone County bridge collapsed after a tractor that was too big tried to cross it Saturday afternoon.
Deputies were called to Holiday Road around 4:30 p.m. where they found a John Deere tractor with a disc ripper attachment on the collapsed bridge.
The driver of the tractor told deputies that he didn't realize his attachment was wider than the bridge when he tried to cross. He said he got about three-quarters of the way across when he noticed a top beam start to shake and the bridge collapsed on him.
The driver was not injured.
This is the second major bridge damaged in Boone County from farm equipment, according to the Boone County Sheriff's Department. Sugar Creek Bridge in northern Boone County was damaged last year. That driver was never found.
