LEBANON, Ind. -- A Lebanon City Councilman was found dead of an apparent suicide Thursday morning, according to the city's mayor, Matt Gentry.

Boone County Deputy Ken Conley said Jeremy Lamar's body was found at Brown’s Wonder Cemetery, which is located on the outskirts of town. Someone called police around 11 a.m. after finding his body.

Lamar leaves behind a teenage son and an elementary school-aged daughter. Lamar had been married and divorced twice.

People in Lebanon describe him as a kind, loving and funny person who cared deeply about his community.

Lamar had already decided last year not to run for re-election at his post after 16 years as a councilman, according to the Mayor.

"I was shocked and saddened to hear of the unexpected death of Jeremy Lamar," Mayor Gentry said in a statement. "I extend my deepest sympathies, thoughts and prayers to the Lamar family and friends."

The Boone County Sheriff will lead the investigation into Lamar's death.
