Maternity house set to open in Whitestown for expectant mothers in need

WHITESTOWN, Ind. -- While Dr. Lori Buzzetti was serving as the director for the Women’s Health Clinic at St. Vincent Primary Care Center in Indianapolis, her heart broke every time she met an expectant mother who was living in her car or otherwise in a desperate situation.

“Some of them sat crying in the exam room thinking abortion was their only option.” said Dr. Buzzetti.

“During this time, God pressed it into my heart that every life matters. He laid out a picture of a home where a pregnant woman could find shelter, food, and most of all love.”

After years of searching, Buzzetti found an old, blue farmhouse in Whitestown known as the Willey House. New Hope Christian Church owns the property and church leaders have offered it to Dr. Buzzetti to be used as a shelter for those expectant mothers in need.

“The space and the setting are just perfect.” said  Dr. Buzzetti.

“We are so thankful to New Hope for partnering with us to help put a roof over the heads of local, expectant mothers, some of whom are currently living intents.”

So Big Mountain House Maternity Home will provide shelter, food and clothing for up to four pregnant women and their children.

The women can come at any point in their pregnancy and can stay up to a year after their baby is born.

While there, the women will also learn life skills and be connected with resources to learn to live successfully on their own when they leave.

So Big Mountain House Maternity Home is piloting a program developed at Wheeler Mission that will also teach communication skills, conflict resolution and financial management.

The maternity home is scheduled to open its doors this November.

To help pay for renovations and operating costs, So Big will hold a dinner and silent auction fundraiser on October 26 in the Cardinal Room at Whitestown’s Golf Club of Indiana.

The ‘Born to Sparkle’ auctionbegins at 6 p.m. with dinner served at 7 p.m. Tickets are $55 per seat or $495 for a table of ten.
