Zionsville opens doors to new $10 million town hall

ZIONSVILLE, Ind. -- Zionsville now has a new town hall. The $10 million facility opened on Wednesday, Sept. 19.

Deputy Mayor Edward Mitro says the building is a significant upgrade over the Zionsville United Methodist Church, which was sold to the town in 2003 to serve as the town hall.

“We will be better able to serve the public in a much more efficient manner because it is designed specifically for this use,” Mitro said.

Mitro went on to say that, although the former church served the community well as a town hall, the new one can better serve residents into the future.

“We built it for future growth,” Mitro said.  “We hope this was built to serve the community for the next 50 years.”

Town leaders expect the new facility will have an immediate impact on the residents of Zionsville.

“Most people who have seen it have been thrilled, especially those who have utilized the old town hall.”

The deputy mayor says the bulk of the mortgage for the new town hall will be paid for through a variety of resources.

“There are six different sources of funds being used and a portion will be from property taxes,” Mitro said.

To help with additional funding, the old church that served as town hall for the past 14 years will be torn down and the lot will be sold.

As for how much the current lot would be sold for, Mitro could not release that figure at this time.
