Boy rescued after falling through ice

Posted

LAWRENCE -- A boy was rescued after falling through thin ice on a pond in Lawrence Sunday night.

It happened in the 5400 block of Bob Drive near Pendleton Pike and 56th Street.

Police say the boy was walking on the ice and fell through.

An officer was able to pull him out and get him to a hospital.

"I set my duty belt on the ground to go into the ice. I just wanted to get that kid out as fast a possible because, you know, he has a parent and that parent is probably just as worried about him as I am my own child," said Officer Dustin Vantreese, Lawrence Police Department.

The boy is expected to be okay.
