Broad Ripple safer two years after mass shooting

Posted

INDIANAPOLIS -- Tuesday marked two years since seven people were shot in Broad Ripple Village.

Since the shooting, the Broad Ripple Village Association has partnered with businesses and IMPD to enact a change to the area. But the memory of the shooting lingers on.

"I remember that exact situation," said Jeremy Ice. "I think I was down here that night."

Two years later, Broad Ripple's reputation has bounced back.

"When I tell people about Indianapolis, like what it's like to be from here, I always mention Broad Ripple," said Grace Haines-Gallagher.

Some changes are obvious: businesses are mandating tighter security checks of IDs by guards; and big groups of minors walking around at night are far less common.
