NASHVILLE, Ind. — A man in Brown County, Indiana says the city repaved the street he lives on a year ago, and his house is starting to wash away because of it.
He said he contacted the city about it in June. But so far, they’re not helping.
The people who live at the house in the 500 block of Park Lane say after city contractors repaved the street in front of their house, rain runoff took a new path – under the house.
Scott Hampton said water heads straight under his deck toward his home, but it wasn’t always that way.
“Every time we got a heavy hard rain it would wash out all the gravel here at the end of our driveway,” Hampton said.
That means Hampton had to sweep the gravel back in place, which was inconvenient but at least the water missed their home.
“The water now comes straight down the drive ... runs right here straight under our front door right under the house,” he said.
Only one thing has changed, he said. The city repaved the street in summer of 2017.
The Hamptons had somebody out to inspect he problem. The inspector said the floor had already dropped about an inch, but it’s fallen more.
Hampton shared his email exchanges with the city and an insurance agent representing the city. The first email was in June 2018.
“No one from the town has ever come out to look at our property,” Hampton said.
When RTV6 reached out to city officials, Nashville Utility Manager Sean Cassidy said he was advised to not answer questions, and instead to email the insurance agent.
The agent has not responded to a phone call for comment.
“I want the foundation repaired I want the house lifted I want this water problem stopped,” Hampton said.
Hampton said after RTV6 reached out to the city this week, an insurance adjuster contacted him to schedule an inspection of the house. The inspection is set for Monday.
