INDIANAPOLIS -- Most of us have learned to deal with the cracks, bumps and broken sidewalks across Indianapolis.
The city recommends that people call the Mayor’s Action Center to report broken sidewalks, but are they actually getting fixed? Call 6 Investigates uncovered hundreds of repair requests that aren’t getting any attention at all.
Between January 1st and August 11th of this year, people in Indianapolis reported 474 broken sidewalks across the city, according to documents obtained from the City of Indianapolis.
The city says that the Department of Public Works Operations Team has completed 29 sidewalk repair projects so far this year, only 6 percent of the total repair requests made.
The city said 20 more repair jobs have already been scheduled for later this year.
But what about all those other requests? Indy’s DPW says, “The remaining requests are under review by DPW’s engineering team.”
