INDIANAPOLIS -- The first wave of job losses at Carrier will begin in July, according to Call 6 Investigates.
Carrier’s union representatives told Call 6 Investigates July 20 will be the final day for about 300 workers with 136 positions being voluntary separations and 164 being regular layoffs.
It's unclear how many of those jobs will be immediately shifted to Carrier's operation in Monterrey, Mexico.
Another job loss wave is expected at the end of the year as Carrier shifts its fan coil division to Mexico.
The company announced back in February that it would be moving roughly 1,400 of its jobs to Monterrey, Mexico, citing the ability to save money through lower wages. Some reports showed Mexican wages as low as $3 per hour without benefits, and $6 per hour with benefits.
