INDIANAPOLIS -- The second round of job layoffs at Indianapolis' Carrier plant is set to begin 3 days before Christmas.

Carrier's union representatives told Call 6 Investigates that the company will let go of 281 jobs on December 22.

Earlier this week, Call 6 Investigates reported that 338 jobs would be let go in July during their first round of layoffs on July 20.

Workers who accepted voluntary separation will still get their separation but will not be eligible for unemployment when the layoffs take place.

The company announced back in February that it would be moving roughly 1,400 of its jobs to Monterrey, Mexico, citing the ability to save money through lower wages. Some reports showed Mexican wages as low as $3 per hour without benefits, and $6 per hour with benefits.
