Carmel police warn about traffic ticket scam

Posted

CARMEL, Ind. -- Carmel police issued a warning Tuesday about scam artists using new ways to try and steal your money.

The scam takes the form of a fraudulent email that appears to be from a city source. The email says the recipient has been recorded by a traffic camera at 96th Street and Keystone Avenue and now owes a fine for a traffic violation.

But, police say, there are no traffic cameras at that location – and police don't issue citations by email.

Carmel police say if you receive the scam email, you should contact them and not agree to send anyone money.
