AVON — Members of the Washington Township/Avon Fire Department in Hendricks County do all the normal things you would expect—fires, crashes, ambulance runs and so forth. But a cat stuck in a lamp shade?

Dave Bandy, Chris Lewis and Jason Arkins got the call early Thursday. Kitten stuck in lamp shade at Hendricks County home.

When the emergency team arrived, the owner had a hold of the kitten in the shade on the floor. It was stuck at the rear hips and did not appear to be injured or in distress, according to the fire department.

As you can see in the photos above, Lt. Arkins held the kitten still while Bandy and Lewis used bolt cutters to cut away outer parts of the shade to reveal and access what was actually stuck. They were then able to free the kitten by cutting pieces from the shade to disentangle the hips.

Once it was free, the kitten scurried away. It is fine. The lamp shade is not.
