INDIANAPOLIS — Clotheslines will be installed at several Indianapolis Public Library branches as part of a new partnership between the library and "Women4Change."

The clotheslines are the crucial part of a nearly year-long project called "El Tendedero/The Clothesline," which allows sexual assault survivors to write a response to their abuse and pin them to the public line.

More than 1.5 million Hoosier women have reported being raped or sexually assaulted, according to the Indiana State Department of Health. Those responsible for these crimes are often not prosecuted due to our state laws, according to Women4Change.

Installations can be found beginning the week of September 7 at the Beech Grove, Eagle, East 38th Street, Glendale, and the Central Library.

Aside from The Clothesline, IndyPL will also be hosting book discussions in both English and Spanish that feature titles about violence against women. The first event will be on Friday, September 11, at 7 p.m. and led by Minette Kamara of the Indiana Coalition to End Sexual Assault and Human Trafficking, Inc.

Those interested in learning more or registering to the book discussions can visit the “Online Programs” section at indypl.org.
