BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY, Ind. – A man was arrested in Bartholomew County after breaking into a home.

On Saturday around 2:50 p.m. a homeowner in the 7000 block of 300 S. called 911 after she said someone was knocked on her front door then shook it to see if it was locked.

When the woman heard noises coming from her kitchen, she grabbed a handgun.

Upon walking into the kitchen she found a male looking through her items. When the suspect saw the homeowner, he fled.

The woman chased the suspect but he got away until a short time later when a Columbus Police officer saw a male walking who matched the description of the suspect.

He was identified as 33-year-old Darrik Burton of Columbus.

Once the homeowner identified the man walking matched the person who broke into her home, Burton was taken to the Bartholomew County Jail with a preliminary charge of residential entry.

Detectives also believe Burton was involved in an attempted residential entry that occurred just hours before.

Burton is held on a $257,5000 bond.
