BROWNSBURG, Ind. -- Community members in Brownsburg came together Sunday evening to release pink balloons in memory of an 8-year-old boy who drowned in a retention pond on Friday.
Brownsburg police believe Shalom Lawson slipped away from his family around 1:30 p.m., it was likely just minutes later that he wandered into a nearby retention pond. Crews searched for Lawson for almost 24 hours in severe weather and overnight.
His body was recovered from the pond Saturday morning.
Dozens of people gathered at Creekside Commons Park Sunday evening to hold a vigil for the young boy and release pink balloons in his memory.
Lawson's family was at the vigil and spoke to those who gathered before the vigil began.
