INDIANAPOLIS—Community Health Network cut the ribbon Monday on an inpatient adult psychiatric unit on the Indianapolis east side.

The 13-bed facility is on the 5th floor of the state's new Neuro-Diagnostic Institute and is connected to Community Hospital East at 16th Street and North Ritter Avenue. Patients will begin using the space this week.

Community Health Network says the new unit expands its capacity to treat adult drug addiction. "The goal of the additional space is to provide more convenient access and shorter wait times, allowing those with addiction and other mental health issues to be treated when they need it," according to a press release.

The Neuro-Diagnostic Institute and Advanced Treatment Center is a state hospital that replaced LaRue Carter Memorial Hospital on Spring Mill Road. It opened in March and has 159 beds. Patients at LaRue Carter at the time of the closing were transferred to the east side facility.
