Community Hospital East starts new phase of demo

Posted

INDIANAPOLIS -- The next phase of a $175 million investment in Community East Hospital is officially underway.

Crews started bulldozing one of the building's along North Ritter Avenue Wednesday.

It is the first of several structures set to meet the wrecking ball in the coming months.

The demolitions are making room for a new hospital tower and emergency department capable of accommodating more patients.

"We will have labor, recovery rooms for our OB care, more integrated units, medical imaging," Suzanne Koehler said.

Construction on the east campus began in August of 2015 and is expected to be complete in 2019.
