INDIANAPOLIS — Education and prevention. That was the goal of an anti-violence community walk Wednesday on the north side of Indianapolis.

City leaders walked through Meridian Hills, meeting neighbors and discussing challenges in the neighborhood.

U.S. Attorney Josh Minkler said education people about the risks of re-offending is one key part to reducing violence.

"Here are the consequences if you're a prohibited person for picking up a gun," he said. "Here are the consequences if you're selling drugs and you're selling drugs with a gun."

Mayor Joe Hogsett and Indianapolis Metropolitan Police chief Bryan Roach lead a community walk in a different neighborhood every month.
