INDIANAPOLIS — The first six of 13 new, affordable homes will soon be under construction near Downtown Indianapolis. The houses are funded through the 'Lift Indy' program.

Crews are building the houses in the Old Southside neighborhood, which include Iowa Street, South Delaware Street, South Meridian Street, and Talbott Street.

Lift Indy partners with neighborhoods in need of funding to solidify growth and development.

"The resurgence of the Old Southside has already started. But, the 'Lift Indy' program administered by Indianapolis Neighborhood housing Partnership is going to be a real pick me up," Brad Davis, President of Davis Homes, said. "So many great things are happening... I'm looking at Lucas Oil Stadium; I'm looking at Downtown Indianapolis. You can walk to work if you live here. This will be another kick start to help."

The city says the homes are also significant because they help to increase the amount of affordable, quality homes in the local housing market.

According to Lift Indy, since 2014 there's been a 76 percent declining in homes actively listed for sale between the prices of $75,000 and $140,000.
