INDIANAPOLIS -- The Convoy of Hope believes it brings just that – hope – to families who could use some.
Volunteers who travel the country stopped at a lot off 38th Street near the Indiana State Fairgrounds on Saturday, meeting up with local volunteers. Their mission was to give to those in need – free haircuts were available, as were medical screenings, food, shoes and prayer. "Anything that you can imagine that people might be in need of there's hope here,” said Rev. Colby Hill, pastor of Heartland Church in Indianapolis.
Hill wanted to bring Convoy of Hope to Indy after seeing their work in Haiti. “(W)e said let's bring their signature event here so that we can have a massive impact in our city for the folks that are really underserved and really need access to these sorts of things.”
Though the items available for the needy were limited, the hope is not. “Someone left and they said today I didn’t feel needy, and I think that's really what we hope to hear from the guests,” said Molly Erickson, Convoy of Hope spokesperson. “We don't want them coming in feeling like they need help. We just want them coming in knowing that these people are here to support them."
