BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Cook Medical, a Bloomington-based factory that makes medical supplies, has issued a global recall of its catheters.
The company said 4.1 million units are under the notice, manufactured between March 2013 and March 2016. The recall affects the Beacon Tip catheters. They could split or break while inside of a patient.
The company issued a recall for the same products before in 2015, then again later that year. Cook Medical has seen an increase in complaints about the splitting, so the company issued a recall on all Beacon Tip catheters.
“We’ve been investigating a variety of factors including environmental influences and it’s been difficult for us to reproduce the exact failures that our customers have experienced,” said Pete Yonkman, president of Cook Medical.
