FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The Allen County Coroner has determined the former Indiana University football star and former NFL wide receiver James Hardy killed himself.
Hardy was found dead in the Maumee River in Fort Wayne on June 7. He'd been reported missing by relatives.
The coroner says the cause of death was asphyxia due to drowning.
The former Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens player was reported missing a few weeks ago by relatives.
The former Indiana University star was drafted in the second round of the 2008 NFL draft by the Buffalo Bills. A series of injuries limited him to 16 games over two seasons in Buffalo. He also played for the Baltimore Ravens before being released in 2011.
